Route Overview
This walk features one of the most photographed trails in the UK. The tree tunnel is formed along a sunken lane (hollow way) which follows the ancient Roman road, Stane Street. Over centuries, the foot traffic and weather wore down the sandy soil, creating a deep trench where trees on the banks have grown together to form a spectacular living archway. The trail continues up to Halnaker Hill, home to the restored 18th-century windmill and breathtaking views of Chichester.
